Part-Time Executive Director

Friends of the Santa Fe Public Library seeks a part-time Executive Director to expand funding support, visibility and advocacy on behalf of the Santa Fe Public Library.

The Executive Director (ED) will be the first paid Director in the organization's 50 year history and marks a significant commitment to growing the organization's effectiveness and reach. The part-time position is three days a week, reports to the Board of Directors and offers $45,000 annual compensation.

The Executive Director (ED) sets the vision and strategic direction of the organization with the Board and is the public face of the organization. The ED plays an important role in planning and resource management and oversees a budget of $350,000, one part-time staff member and a part-time bookkeeper. 

​

The successful candidate will be an energetic leader who will embrace the opportunity to expand the Friends' capacity to raise awareness and funding for the library. 

​

Ideal Competencies:

​

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of work experience in a leadership position with fundraising and management responsibilities and will have a passion for the mission of the Friends.

​

Fundraising:

​

The Friends are dependent on membership, grants and individual donations as well as earned income from book sales. The candidate must have knowledge of and connections to the Santa Fe community and have a proven track record of successful fundraising. S/he will be familiar with membership and donor development strategies and how to grow and build donor relationships.

​

Marketing and Communication Skills:

​

The ED will understand how to develop an integrated marketing strategy with a consistent and focused message targeting different audiences using the Friends website, social media, newsletter, public media and in person presentations. S/he must have well-developed writing, interpersonal and public speaking skills.

​

Board Committees:

​

The ED will be familiar working with Boards and Volunteers, understand the importance of good communication, teamwork, accuracy and timeliness of reporting and follow-through.

​

The Executive Director will strive to achieve the following:

​

  • Oversee and set goals for staff and contract employees

  • Increase visibility and outreach of the organization within the non-profit and public sector with measurable publicity and promotion

  • Ensure a compelling and consistent message and marketing presence

  • Build relationships with donors, members, volunteers, partners and other stakeholders to bring awareness of and support to the Friends

  • Develop and execute a fundraising plan to increase membership, individual and foundation contributions. Continue to support and improve earned income through book sales.
