Educational Resource Center (ERC)

The ERC is for Educators

Tucked away in the SFPL Main branch on Washington Street is a little-known and remarkable resource for teachers, homeschoolers, and tutors. The Friends of the Library accepts book donations from individuals. During the pandemic, the FOL put aside books of particular value to teachers establishing classroom libraries. We have received entire classroom libraries from exceptional, retiring teachers, and these deserve to go to new generations of thoughtful and visionary teachers.

Our collection is abundant, well-organized, ever-changing, and includes Pre-K through young adult fiction and nonfiction. Books are filed according to familiar Dewey Decimal categories (History, Biography, Natural Sciences, etc.). All fiction is alphabetized by author. Special categories include:

  • Teaching and Parenting

  • Class Sets

  • Newbery Awards

  • Graphic Novels

Please feel welcome to call or write for an appointment to search the ERC for books you can use, or to ask if we have a particular title you want. Take all you want, and everything is FREE.
